Week 40 of Pregnancy 6

May 8, 2019. My actual due date.

How in the actual fuck am I still pregnant?

I cannot believe that I am still pregnant.

I was never supposed to see my due date. She was supposed to be here for at least 2 weeks by now.

Shit man. This was uncomfortable.

I did not feel like I had made any progress, even with all of the shit I had been doing to get her to move and get her engaged in my pelvis. My belly looked the exact same as last week. She looked super high in my ribs still. I even took a picture from week 39 to week 40 to compare in the exact same dress and it looks like I took the picture one minute apart, not one week apart.

week 39 versus week 40

I had a doctor appointment today and I was really not looking forward to it.

I had already envisioned in my head that no progress has been made and they were going to schedule an induction within the next couple of days.

I had to work that morning and then off to the doctor I went. I told everyone that I would see them tomorrow because I took the rest of the day off.

Thankfully for me, I would not return to work the next day…

They called me back at the doctors office pretty quick. Today, I got to see my regular doctor which I was happy about.

She checked Jolee’s heartbeat and it was perfectly fine as it always was. Before she checked to see if I was dilated or thinned out, she asked me if I wanted my membranes swept. I told her the doctor I saw last week tried to, but she couldn’t reach because my cervix was still too high. She suggested that she check me first and if she could, would I want her to do the sweep? I instantly said yes.

On to the check…

She immediately said her head was engaged and super low.

She then felt for a little longer and told me I was 4cm dilated!

I was so incredibly happy. This was HUGE progress.

Now it was time for the membrane sweep. I had never had this done and I had heard mixed reviews about it hurting and not hurting.

She told me she was about to do the sweep and to take a deep breath.

And let me tell you, it fucking hurt.

She basically just moves her fingers around a lot (sweep) to try and separate the sac from the cervix. It releases hormones that are supposed to initiate labor. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I was praying it was going to work for me.

After all of that was over, we talked about induction.

I asked how long they would let me go over and she said a week. I was happy about that because I assumed they would try to do it a lot sooner. So, we scheduled my induction for May 15th. My doctor said given my current situation, she didn’t think I would make it that far.

I, again, prayed she was right.

As soon as I got to my truck, I called Scott. I couldn’t wait to tell him how much progress had been made. He was just as shocked as I was. I told him I was going to go grab some lunch and go home and clean. I just felt like I needed to go home and clean everything in the event that I went into labor soon. The last thing I wanted to come home to was a dirty house. Plus, I was hoping that if I moved around a lot, maybe it would also help bring on labor.

I did ALL the laundry, and ALL the dishes, mopped ALL the floors, DID ALL THE THINGS.

And afterwards I was just tired with a backache. No signs of labor.

…Less than 12 hours later…my labor would begin 🙂
